How would parents react if they found out that their child was halfway through an online degree?

I guess it would depend on the age of the child as to the level of amazement that one would experience, but my reaction would be one of encouragement even if the subject matter were in a completely unexpected field. I will assume that the child is pre-teen, aged from 9–12.

If it were a genuine degree with recognised accreditation, the first question I would be asking is, “How did you pay for this?”
If it’s unaccredited, then the alleged scores become irrelevant. It would be necessary to have someone who is accredited in that field of study to review the material to show whether the child is on the right track or not. Where material (and scores) can be validated, encouragement would still be shown with a view to migrating to an accredited source. The more learning that can be achieved from the non-accredited source, the cheaper it will be to get “prior learning” recognised by an accredited source.
The hardest part would be ensuring that the child got access to the right resources for practical work.

If the child is half-way through a Law degree, then there’s really no point in forcing zhim to study in the fields of chemistry and physics beyond that required by law. On getting into High School, I would be making special arrangements so that zhe could attend the Local Court on Court Day, with a view to getting a local law practitioner to take on someone for work experience.
If the child is doing well on a Medical degree, then how does she get the practical experience in gross anatomy? Looking at where I live, the only experience available to a child is a Vet or a Mortician. I would have to move so that she had access to the nearest University’s Mortuary where cadavers (bodies) have been dissected and aren’t untouchable.
