Why should I get a degree when there is nothing I can't learn online?

Image result for online CS degrees
It's not true that you can learn everything online.  Online, you may be able to fulfill a lot of the knowledge level learning from Bloom's taxonomy, you may be able to fulfill a subset of the comprehension level learning, but online learning is very poor (for most professions) for the higher levels, such as application and synthesis.
We go to university/college to prepare us for a career.  A degree documents learning.  The primary value of a degree is that it labels you as having some basic set of skills and knowledge.  It labels you as being able to succeed within a system that is not under your control.
Imagine you are responsible for hiring individuals for a large company.  You publicize that you have an opening for an entry-level position in a skilled profession.  You get hundreds of applications.  How do you filter those down to people that may actually be qualified?  You set prerequisite requirements.  The most common of which is a degree from an accredited educational institution, in a discipline related to the job position.  Employers have to trust that the educational institution would not have given you the diploma if you didn't earn it.  Without that diploma, how would an employer be able to have any confidence that you know what you need to know?  That you have the skills you need to have?
I mentioned, above, that a degree also indicates that you have some ability to succeed within a system that is not under your control.  Without going to school, you may indeed have spent four years in your parents' basement studying and learning via online sources of information, but that doesn't mean you will fit into the real-world work environment.  The real-world work environment involves having schedules imposed upon you. It involved being given orders.  It involves participating in teamwork. It involves accomplishing goals by cooperating with people you don't like.  It involves communicating via oral and written methods.  All of that is also part of the educational experience.  By completing a degree, we show that we have some toughness and that we don't walk away from challenges.  That is what a hiring official really wants to see in the people they select.
I talk to kids about becoming engineers.  I tell them that they probably won't use a lot of the material from their textbooks, on the job.  I did hundreds of Taylor series in college, but I've never had to do one as a professional engineer.  I've never had to write a line of Fortran since college.  I can't remember Young's modulus of any of the materials I memorized in college.  Most of the knowledge I needed for my job wasn't taught in school, it was learned on the job.
But, performing all of that engineering problem solving made me a problem solver.  Writing all of those lab reports and presenting my results made me a more effective communicator.  Showing up, day after day, to classes I hated and not fulfilling my daydreams of making lousy or nasty professors eat the chalkboard erasers made me more disciplined.  All of that made me a better candidate for my job.  A good university education teaches students real-world coping skills using the context and vocabulary of their desired field.  Studying online isn't very helpful in developing those skills.
Depending on the field one wants to pursue, an educational institution can also be important because it can provide resources that people can't provide for themselves.  It's not easy to get a cadaver to dissect at home.  Electron microscopes aren't cheap.  One usually can't make Kevlar at home.  And no matter how much Googling one does, nothing beats being able to sit face to face with an expert in a field and talk to them - ask them questions and hear their war stories.
(All of that said, I do believe the extreme increases in the price of education have made a degree cost more than it is worth).

Is there an online solution to getting a degree in UI/UX design?

Image result for online CS degrees
You could look into Kent State UXD, the master's program I teach for. We currently have about 140 students. We're completely online. While I am of course biased by my association with the university, here are what I see as our pro's and cons:
Pro's:
- We're very strong in user experience research, information architecture and content strategy. Our instructors include some of the best practitioners in the field, like Adam PolanskySamantha StarmerHilary MarshStacy Surla, and so on.
- The program has a strong focus on developing students' "UX brain" - that is, how to approach UX and business problems through top-down and bottom-up analysis, field research, application of design thinking, and tight collaboration with neighboring disciplines; e.g., product management, development, marketing, and sometimes even sales.
- We also teach our students essential real-world skills like project scoping and project management, and how to operate within agile / lean product development environments.
- Over half of our student body is already working in the field, so we have strong peer support as well. In short, we build flexible, pragmatic practitioners who know how to approach a problem space.
Cons:
- We are currently not very strong in detailed interaction design. We teach students how to create customer journey maps and personas, design workflows that are appropriate for the context of use, and wireframes / wireflows. But we are agnostic about which tools they use. This helps us avoid having to relearn and teach the latest tools as the field shifts from Visio to Omnigraffle to Sketch and so on. As a result, we don't have a strong focus on detailed interaction design for specific platforms.
- We've recently partnered with the Visual Communication Design school at Kent so we can offer more of a foundation in visual design, but it's fair to say that we've got some way to go before we can claim to provide a strong visual design foundation.

What is the best online computer science Bachelor's degree program?

Image result for online CS degrees
Just about everyone you ask will give you a different answer to this question, but the best colleges consistently come up. GradLime used seven of the most widely-used lists of online CS degrees and data from the National Center for Education Statistics to build a more objective list of the top online bachelor in CSdegrees. (It’s really easy to compare programs on that list, too.)
Oregon State University ranked high on five of the seven lists we used, and it had the highest average ranking on all of them. (Plus someone else recommended it here using different lists!)
That’d be my recommendation, but it still depends on what “best” means to you. We also highlighted some of the key factors that might make one program more appealing than another.
Most affordable
Brigham Young University-Idaho (about $4,000 per year whether you live in-state or out-of-state)
Best job placement rate
Dakota State University (92% for their BS in CS program)
*Note that a lot of great schools don’t report job placement rate.
Best graduation rate
University of Florida (87%)

If you study the one year online MBA, how serious is it regarded as a degree qualification?

 Image result for online degree
Some people see that as a sign you are a quitter and discount you before you are even selected to interview. Hiring managers are fickle people when they wade through a pile of resumes. Everyone is different about this and it really depends on things like the pool of talent applying for the job, the number of applicants overall, and how desperate the manager is needing to fill the position.
It is one thing to drop out because you are paying in cash and ran out of funds or you had a medical/family issue that forced you to stop. You might have decided that it wasn’t what you wanted. It could be anything really. Unfortunately, there isn’t a way to explain that in the screening process without drawing attention to it.
If I interviewed you, I might ask why you didn’t finish and if you plan on going back. That is as far as I would take it. I personally applaud anyone who is trying to better themselves. Graduate school is a good way to do it.
Suppose the job you are applying for it lists a MBA as a qualification, you would unfortunately end up in the trash simply because I have a pool of candidates who meet the minimum standard.
As far as it is being online or not: I prefer online graduates. Online schools require more discipline and a stronger work ethic. It is too easy to fall behind on your studies. B&M schools make it really easy for people to just show up or get the hand holding.
Will online/distance bachelor's/undergraduate degrees be less considered for admission into top MBA programs like HBS?
Image result for online degree
You want to get an MBA from Harvard, arguably the most prestigious MBAprogram in the world.

Yet, you don't have a degree, haven't taken the 1/2 hour to call your undergrad program to see if you can finish your degree, apparently haven't done the research on completing an online degree ("...might be able to..."), and haven't considered night school or some off-work degree program ("...don't want to give up work...").

Yes you've done some good in your professional and charitable life, but the lack of research skills, motivation, drive and unwillingness to sacrifice that will be required to pursue your graduate (and undergraduate) studies show that your candidacy would be sorely lacking.

THERE ARE NO SHORTCUTS.

If you want it bad enough anything is possible, but your question SCREAMS that you don't yet want it bad enough.

To answer your direct question - All aspects of your application will be weighed, the question becomes if the plusses outweigh the minuses enough to get you into the school of your choice.

You have more work to do before you go down this road.

After completing an MBA in 3.5 years, which degree programs can I apply to in Europe and the UK?

 Image result for online degree
If you would like to pursue further education after an MBA, it pretty much boils down to two logical choices:
  1. a Ph. D. in Business, Economics and some such, or any other field, really. Two issues with pursuing a Ph.D. after an MBA that I see:
    1. Typically, after an MBA you would be older than an average Ph.D. applicant. That’s not definitive though.
    2. More importantly, an MBA is considered to be a hands-on degree for business practitioners, while a Ph.D. is an academic path typically for researchers and future professors. There is an inherent conflict of motivation. Because of that, the academia came up with…
  2. …a DBA. That’s an advanced degree for MBAs who seek to teach business disciplines, run academic institutions (as deans, presidents etc.), or generally have an ambition to further their education, with a preference for practicing business skills (vs engaging in theoretical research).
Beyond that, you can always choose to go one step back and get another Masters degree in any field of your interest. Since MBA programs are generally considered pretty rigorous, you would likely have a good chance at getting selected for any other program at a Masters level.
Good luck.

Academic and Educational Advice: What can I do after completing bcom?

 Image result for online degree
I am glad to know that there are people who actually think of career options once they graduate instead of just jumping in the aimless rat race.
A wise course of action after your B.COM (or when you are in 3rd year) is to analyse industries that has potential to harness your capabilities. You should take up jobs in your faivoured industry and see how well you fit in. Probably then think of studying a professional course to advance in your career.
It is a usual practice for most students to take up each and every course thats popular thinking they are strengthening their career. Merely collecting degreesdoes not take you anywhere in life, its what you make out of yourself during the course of your professional studies sets you apart from the rest.
Take up internships/jobs for at least 1-2 years. You may not get an extremely well paying job but you’ll gain perspective about industries, your aspirations and most importantly your’ll have a clear vision about your future.
Look out what kind of work you’ll like to do according to your personality and life values: Marketing, Finance, Accounting, Law, Banker, Data analysis, consultancy, legal advice, management, research etc
Research about which industry attracts you the most: Heath, E-commerce, Manufacturing, FMCGs, Automobile, Stock Market etc
Study your comprehensive analysis and start applying for jobs. Recruiters always look for applicants who have a focus and know where they want to reach in life.
Best of luck!

Which are some of the best and most affordable online MBA degrees in the US?

 Image result for online degree
It’s hard to tell exactly how many colleges in the United States and Internationally offer online programs, but some put the estimates at anywhere from 1,000 to over 3,500 schools. A large percentage of these carry the perfect potential to make you a happy and skilled graduate.
What matters isn’t so much the actual school you do end up going to, but the criteria that school is meant to meet. So let’s go through what you should be looking for – from there, a rudimentary directory search will give you a very clear understanding of what your choices are.
  • Proper accreditation.
  • A reputable curriculum.
  • Quality support.
  • Brilliant alumni testimonials.
Colleges today have to be accredited in order to claim legitimacy. There are several large and legitimate accrediting bodies, like the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, one of six official bodies. Reputation also matters – CBU Online, for example, was rated by US News as one of the top schools in the country for Bachelor’s Degrees and MBA programs.
The final test is to see how students speak of the school. Alumni testimonials can tell you a lot about a program’s teaching methods, support systems, and any issues to consider.
